Focus On Yourself. by Tatiana - April 2021 Scholarship Essay

If I had to give myself any advice it would be: Focus On Yourself. My entire life, I've consistently put myself on the backburner, even as far as putting myself in financial hardships to assist others who would not have done the same for me. I put life, school, and dreams on hold in order to satisfy the dreams of those who did not have my best interests at heart.
At this time in my life, I am dealing with the consequences of my actions, and I am in recovery mode. If my younger self knew what she does now, I would have set myself up in order to be a more financially stable mother so that I did not depend on the finances of government assistance and loans from family members.
Had the girl I was 5 years ago known what life would be today, I often ponder where I would be. Would I have stayed in California? Would moving to Nevada even be an option for me or would I go somewhere even further from my home?
My head was wrapped in the clouds. I allowed myself to believe that I could be a child forever and that responsibility would not catch up with me. I am proud to say that I have outgrown that stage in my life.
