Describe a challenging academic experience you have faced and how you overcame it. by Taylor - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

Way back in middle school, I took a high school math class as an 8th grader, algebra 1. In that math class, the teacher had taught with a lot of different methods that no teacher has ever used before. I had never truly struggled to understand a class more in my life. I have always been really good at math but with this teacher,r I had really been challenged. I ended up getting frustrated or overwhelmed every day. Anytime I got asked a question it was wrong and I even eventually was getting bullied for it. He used weird poems and sayings to explain his ways and was just an odd character. But to overcome that class I just asked another student to help me understand, which helped most of the time. But if that didn’t work I brought in the big guns and asked my other math teacher that I had later in high school and he really helped me. He was really good at breaking stuff down and making sure everyone understands. So for me to struggle this much in a math class was very defeating to me but in the end, I just had to ask others and get the help I truly need to pass this class and the end of year exam for the class.
