A Motherly Talk in Biology by Toni - August 2013 Scholarship Essay

A couple weeks to the end of the school year, my freshman honors biology teacher Mrs. Cox took the entire period to talk to us about life.  She started by telling us that the next three years not to take too much responsibility on, manage our time wisely, and most importantly have fun.  These three key pieces of life helped me get through high school with honors and AP classes, working everyday afterschool, all with having a leadership position for a club.  It was almost strange that Mrs. Cox was the teacher to sit us down and make sure we really looked at what did with our lives because while she was an amazing teacher, the most advice she had given us before was to get a decent amount of sleep before tests not stay up studying all night. This day she gave this sort of “motherly” talk to the class was a surprise since every day we took lecture notes, and we still had a couple chapters to get through.  Looking back now this advice really helped in the long run with the major stresses of life in general.  Not only was she a great teacher, but she was a person I felt comfortable around, the teacher that open my eyes to the stresses that will come in the future and how to deal with it all.
