Child Literacy by Tyler - January 2017 Scholarship Essay
The Boy Scouts of America have a strict Oath and Law that every scout knows from a young age. Within the Oath and Law service is stressed multiple times. I have been in scouting since the first grade as a Tiger Cub. The Boy Scouts of America has taught me the value of service which made me be a proponent for child literacy.
I volunteer every week at Cromaine District Library every week. Each week I am given a program related task from the librarians. I help plan programs based around books for the teens and children to participate in. The purpose of these events is to not only have fun, but for the children to read the books. Most of these activities focus around the books and often forget about what happened in the movies. Children who have not read the book, but still chose to participate are often given the opportunity to take a personal copy of the book donated by a third party. Children often walk out with a new book to show their parents during these events.
I love volunteering and believe it is one of the most amazing things people can do. Cromaine District Library is my volunteering home where I make the biggest impact, but it is not the only one.
