My Inspirational Experiences by Ummuhan - January 2017 Scholarship Essay

There are many ways to inspire and advocate for people around you. These could be big or small things, remember that the smallest things could make the biggest differences. Most people pursue leadership roles to inspire others. Leadership roles are one of the most effective because you become the person people look up to. It is also a chance to improve your own values and aspirations. A person’s leadership and service impacts everything and it is a step into improving the world. This is what I always think when I step up into a leadership role or participate in a service to impact my community. I always believe that the smallest things I do could influence my peers for the better or worse. I aspire to always improve myself and become a humanitarian. I know that nobody could be a perfect individual, but I want to be as close to it as possible.

One of the greatest leadership roles I have taken up are in National Honor Society and Student Council. My leadership roles have impacted my activities a lot. For instance, I have more opportunities to help out in my school and community. Every year I help out in the senior citizen dinner, the blood drive and at the safe Halloween held in my high school. At the senior citizen dinner, I serve pastries and drinks to elderly people. It is a well thought-out event where we interact with elders. It is heartbreaking to know that some elders celebrate their holidays alone, so it is important for us to always be there for them. It is great to volunteer at the dinner because it really does bring joy and happiness to the elders. It’s also a place for the elders to get together and reconnect over the months and years, it’s a rejuvenating event for them. The senior citizen dinner is always a positive impact on my community.

The blood drive is held every year and we encourage every student who meet the requirements to donate blood. I love the blood drive because I help with the donors and it fits my career goal. I’ve always wanted to enter the medical field and anything about it interests me. We also provide a safe Halloween in our school. We try to bring positivity to our community by keeping our children safe and sound. It may not be traditional kind, but we try to make it as fun and enjoyable as possible. I enjoy participating and volunteering at school events because I definitely know that it will make a positive difference in my community and school.
I have been in Student Council since the beginning of my high school years, which led me into being inducted into the National Honor Society. Becoming a member of NHS was the most effective thing that made a difference in me and it helped me find one of the best places to volunteer at and build an experience for myself. It influenced me into going out and volunteering at places besides my community. This summer I volunteered at the Cooper University Hospital. I volunteered in the patient transport department where I was able to travel all around the hospital. Volunteering at the hospital helped me have a glimpse of working environment in the future. It helped me see and become accustomed to things that I have never encountered. It helped me see the world in a different light, but most importantly it made me more ambitious to achieve my goals. I now know that I will never stop volunteering at the hospital and try to do it every year. It impacted my friends and family a lot. They now know that they can volunteer at places like the hospital and improve their social skills as well as building a good resume for themselves. This experience of mine will always impact my future for college and beyond. It helped me set my goals and aspirations straight and clear, it made me determined to never turn back or give up my dreams.
