THE IDEAL CLASS by Veronica - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
Papers are being tossed and turned, anxious kids are tapping their toes against the floor, and slowly in the background the sound of a clock ticks. Students are bustling in and out of classrooms from the ages of six into their early-mid twenties. This is the common experience faced by students going to school. Not very often are students able to say that they have had their ideal classroom environment. As soon as they receive one that they themselves feel comfortable with, they’re on to a new class and a new teacher. Finding the ideal classroom setting is key to an individual's ability to learn and gain success.
A class should have a welcoming ambiance to help have students feel more at home. I am a very firm believer that most of the atmosphere in school relies on the teacher's guidance. When they are very careless with how he/she carries themselves, it will be hard to take them seriously. A room where the teacher radiates hospitality can make me strive for success, and in addition forget all of the things idly outside of it. An encouraging smile from a teacher will help each scholar feel more comfortable with themselves and with their peers. I appreciate when teachers put forth extra effort connecting with their students. When an instructor and I get along, I am willing to be successful. The classroom should not be a dreaded chore tossed aside until a stern parent enforces it, but rather something that students eagerly await. Another instance of the ideal classroom would be solely the appearance of the class. In a room full of distracting artwork and clutter it will be nearly impossible to stay organized. If a teacher cannot keep their own work on track it will be hard to expect any better from the students. A class should have a few decorations like posters and artwork to keep students from feeling too bored and to simulate creativity. Gaining motivation and positivity from my surroundings can have a large influence on the quality of my work and my level of success.
Students spend two decades in school shaping their characters. The experiences that each student has made formed who they are and allowed them to prepare for the future, and hopefully success. the teachers and the atmosphere they provide are the most important lessons that are carried out into the new environments of the real world.
