Let Me Lend A Hand: The Force of America by Wesley - January 2017 Scholarship Essay
Throughout the years of history, lending a hand to another man without cost has greatly improved humanity. Those who give knowledge willingly for free to see another person grow, those who give financial funds for the wellbeing of the people, and those who but their bodies to work to help his neighbor, these are the people who inspire my dreams, my future, and even down to my way of life.
One day, about three and a half years ago, two forces clashed together in my mind which created a spark; a spark of the joy of knowledge. That spark grew into a flame, and that flame was set upon a torch. And when I finally had that torch, I wanted to pass it on. Knowledge is an element that can only be described in metaphors, and what a precious thing it is. That day, that teacher inspired me to teach. I loved to see the spark that goes on in the minds of others, that click that happens when a person fully comprehends that problem and knows what to do. And after many semesters of learning and excelling toward great achievements, I could finally tutor students. What a joy it is to see people understand.
But it was not only teaching that had entered my heart, but serving as well. I have always heard, "Be good to the unfortunate", and "Do well to others". There was a time in which my family needed help. We could not afford food for some time and we were fed by the kindness of others. We lived of the kindness of the people until situations became better, and indeed they became much better. When I see a person, I do not only see a mere corps, but a living soul, no matter the emotions, the look, the attitude, or lot in life; each person is born for a reason, and there are people in need as we were. I can not just listen to these statements of goodness and not act upon them! No, no, I searched for a place to serve, and at a local church, I found a place. To this day, I serve along the side with them, even as a leader, I help the local food pantry serve many families each week
One of my main motives in life is to be ready for anything. If there is a student who needs comfort, be ready to be there. When friends can't understand the homework, be ready to explain. When someone comes in need, be ready to give wisely. Although, I do fail time time, learning from my mistakes, these are the things that happen in my life. Let the person go by first, and another person will let you go by when you are in a greater need.
Imagine if we as Americans were like this. If every American devoted at least two hours of community service every week, America would be a renewed nation. It was once written "For the people, by the people". Elder women could teach girls to be women, ladies could serve the elders, men could upgrade the nation, boys could learn to be men by the elders, the people would serve the people, which would in cause return the favor. We could be a whole new nation, learning work alongside the opposite race, learning to plan out routes with those who don't agree with us, and learning to get out think of another person whom is not really liked.
I agree with the saying "Workers Unite!" Although I might not agree with the Party whom once said this, I am still willing to work alongside these people if necessary to better and fix our nation. I work alongside with people whom go completely against my beliefs, but for the sake of my beliefs, and for the sake of setting a precedent, I work with them joyfully and without complaint. If one life is changed, it is as if a universe was changed, thus our duty to help. Will you join the effort?
