The Importantance of Mindset by Zachary - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
Last semester was my very first semester staying on campus. I found myself feeling completely overwhelmed. Assignments were piling up, exams were approaching, and my schedule chatted. The stress was so intense that it weighed on my mental health. I didn’t know where to begin, but I realized that I would be in big trouble for my future if I didn’t do something to take control. I took a step back and looked at the entire picture. I started writing down everything I needed to do and creating multiple, clear to-do lists. Seeing all my tasks in front of me helped me better understand the timeframe for my task. I started my personal list first because I believe in starting in a clean workspace before anything. Then, I moved toward my Academic list. This involved breaking assignments into smaller and more manageable sections. This process gave me clarity and direction. As I worked through my list, I started checking off tasks off my Personal and Academic Lists. With each item completed, I felt my environment and mood shifting for the better, alongside accomplishment and relief. By organizing my workload and focusing on one step at a time, I managed my time more effectively and stayed on track. This experience taught me to stay calm under pressure and how important the power of organizational skills is. Truly learning these skills will continue to benefit me throughout my academic and personal life.
