How one event can change your future by zack - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
Growing up in a house full of people 7 to be precise I always felt that I needed to find what I was good at naturally as many young boys and men decided to do is participate in sports. Throughout the young years of my life, I felt that I was only good at sports and could just coast my way through my academics it was not until my sophomore year in math that the fallacy of this came to a sudden halt.
In my high school career, I have participated mainly in two sports this being football and wrestling though I deeply care about these sports times other things can be left on the back burner in my case it was my geometry class. Going into the 2nd semester of sophomore year I was hopeful and willing to continue to be good in wrestling and keep up my academics till we got to a certain unit in class where I needed to be putting in more time into this class and I did not realize it until it was far too late. As February approached and I had qualified for state wrestling I was as excited as anyone could be feeling I could do nothing wrong I came into class that next school day and forgot that we had a test I neglected to study for I was so sure that day that I would be able to understand it and wing-like I always seemingly managed to do but boy was I wrong. I failed the test and since it was the only big major project/test in the grading book I was now failing the class which meant I was ineligible.
Panicking would have been an understatement I was so scared I had never been unable to do sports what did this mean for the state tournament and what did it mean on my transcript all these things rushing through my head. Then and there I talked to my teacher who was going to help me better prepare for my next test I knew I was going to be ready for it and I had to turn this around. Every day I would sit in the front row and right extra notes in my notes book I would stay late and tutor with my teacher or classmates every day. Seemingly I had always previously struggled with math but never to this degree. By the time the next test rolled around, it was the final for out grade it was make or break I was not nervous since I had been studying for the month ahead. I was confident in what I had learned I ended up with an A on that test raising my grade back up to a C which to this day is the lowest grade I have ever gotten in a class.
After this even my sophomore year I learned to never take for granted your classes and to always make sure that I was on top of it. I went from my sophomore year with a 2.9 GPA for the year to finish my Junior year with harder classes and more of a workload and was still able to achieve a 3.75 yearly GPA. ever since that day I have never looked back and always wanted to be the best version of myself and the character I could be whether it is on the mat of the classroom and I am super excited to educate myself in the future.
