Put in the Effort by zoey - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I were to have an educational podcast, I feel my topic would have to be the importance of devoting yourself to your studies. So many students do just enough to get the passing grade, but I would like to share that it’s not what we should strive for. As students, dedication to our education should force us to expand our minds and push the limits. Passing is no longer acceptable; perseverance should be the new strive. Knowledge is an uphill climb and if we’re only ever putting in the bare minimum we’ll never reap the extraordinary benefits. It’s not necessarily “cool”, but neither is letting your potential take the backseat in life. I would like my peers to listen to these words- if you don’t start putting effort into your studies, then you’re not putting effort into your future. The backbone of a good job, a sharp mind, and overall character comes down to determination to always excel. My mother has always said, “Do your best no matter how minuscule the task.” and I relate this to my education more than anything. We as a future nation need to make monumental steps now, when it’s the smaller tasks of an extra chapter reading or putting in the study time for exams, to prepare for the promotion to CEO or showing your manager you deserve a raise. Show yourself, alongside everyone else, that you care about where you hope to be in ten years by putting in the work now. Effort is keen in achieving the best results, so don’t slack in something as important as your education.
