My challenges do not define me by Aase - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
What motivates me to pursue my academic goals and stay focused is the thought of knowing that I am able to help lives on a day-to-day basis with the end goal profession I am working towards. To be able to use my knowledge that I study and wake up every day to strive for is the motivation that keeps me going.
Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to make a difference in people's lives. This desire has led me to pursue a career in nursing. I believe that with my dedication and hard work, I can become a nurse who makes a real impact. The idea of being able to help someone feel better or even save a life is incredibly motivating for me.
I know that my journey will not be easy. I have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and struggle with ADHD, but these challenges have never stopped me from wanting to reach my goals. Instead, they have taught me to be resilient and to find ways to stay focused. Whether it is breaking down my study sessions into smaller, manageable chunks or finding quiet spaces where I can concentrate, I am always finding strategies to keep myself on track.
Being a rising high school senior with a GPA of 2.9, I am aware that I need to work hard to achieve my dreams. My involvement in extracurricular activities like flag football, track, choir, and the Black Student Alliance has taught me the importance of discipline and teamwork. These experiences have shown me that with determination and support, I can overcome any obstacle.
I am applying to several universities, including Mississippi State University, Louisiana State University, Georgia State University, Florida A&M University, Albany State University, Alabama A&M University, Tuskegee University, and Georgia Southern University. I am interested in majors such as Nursing, Nursing Assistant, and Pre-Nursing because they align with my goal of becoming a healthcare professional.
As a Hispanic and Black woman, I am proud of my heritage and the unique perspective it brings to my journey. I believe that diversity in healthcare is crucial, and I am determined to contribute to that diversity. My background and experiences have made me empathetic and understanding, qualities that are essential in the nursing profession.
In conclusion, my motivation to pursue my academic goals comes from my desire to help others and make a positive impact. Despite the challenges I face, I remain focused and committed to my dream of becoming a nurse. I am confident that with hard work and determination, I can achieve my goals and make a difference in the world.
