Throughout life, challenges will be placed in front of us. They will block our path, glaring up at us as we stare back at them. Along with each and every challenge comes a choice; should you rise to the occasion, your success is inevitable but should you fail to bring forth the necessary effort, consequences are soon to follow. Choices in life are difficult to make and the path is not always crystal clear but accepting the conditions of the barricade in front of you is accepting the role of the leader.

Each and every person is the leader of their life. Their choices affect who they become and what journey they take. College is a slice of the entirety of your existence but it is still crucial for success in any aspect. From an academic standpoint, it can help to further your career and to offer a deeper understanding of how hard work truly does pay off. Building and maintaining healthy relationships and learning how to balance social aspects and professional ones can come from a positive college experience.

Taking leadership of your life is the first of many steps for college success. Leadership can come in the form of skipping that lunch date to study. It can come in the form of creating a tutoring group that will assist students struggling to understand concepts of a particular subject or in the form of standing up to injustice. In every possible situation, you must stand up as the leader and do what is right. Succumbing to what is wrong does not accomplish anything, could be highly detrimental to your grades, ruin healthy relationships and leave you feeling incompetent.

Challenges are placed in front of us. It is our responsibility to return their glare, rise up against them and win. College is a time for people to find themselves and who they really are. At this point, it is essential that the leadership skills emerge and help drive the way to success.
