A Dream of Tomorrow by Andrew - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

What makes the world turn from today to tomorrow? A literal explanation is not what this question seeks, but it rather seeks some type of belief not constructed by reality: Our world is built upon reality, and yes, it works, but the idea to ask is does it work for everyone? The world by which humanity has created is full of love and hate, peace and war, and so on, like some balancing act of our own conflictions. Even though these a very present in today's life, the bad is becoming smaller: less death and more love is our new balance. It does not simply just happen; there is a profound reason to why tomorrow will hurt less than today. It is the infusion of knowledge and leadership.

The truth of this can be found from past leaders: John F. Kennedy once said, "Leadership and learning our indispensable to each other." How could it possibly not be true? One of the most well-known Presidents, the figure of leadership in the United States, believes that we need both in order to flourish. Knowledge opens our brains to the world; and leadership opens our hearts to the struggles of the world: intelligence is the weapon of a leader and leadership skills are the factors that makes intelligence useful. Leadership skills are not found in everyone, but if it is there, it shows a type of power in the person: the ability to succeed under difficult situations. That is exactly what college is, a difficult situation, and it tests the ability of potential leaders. It elicits our place in the world, by testing our hearts in the form of adversity.

To quote another leader, John C. Maxwell explains to people that "a leader is the one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." College is not for those who do not seek to be leaders and influence others. Yes, it is a bold statement, but it is true: college is one of the highest levels of learning. A foundation of humanity to expand vastly upon what they do not know and that is what a leader does. For example, Martin Luther King Jr. expanded on what we didn't know by showing the world that peace and love will triumph the intolerance of humanity. Leaders mark the way for discovery; they find solutions and overcome the obstacles. They also influence others: leaders, of course, ‘lead.’ No leader is flawless; they need to be led by other leaders. College practices leadership for students, by having them work together and form a society of influential characters in the tale of us that will lead leaders and will take our missteps away.
The world is slowly falling apart, but it is not something to accept. College is the path to give us the information to rebuild it; it will be a difficult project for the leaders, but that is why we have college: a difficult experience for tomorrow. So, yes leadership skills will give the future generations success in college, but the idea to keep in mind is that college is a smaller version of the world. Success in college will lead to success in the world, and leaders of the victors and saviors of both.
