Leadership is the format for unity. Without leaders, society would be in a world of constant corruption, war and confusion. We look to those that know how to unify people from all different types of cultures to make life more efficient. In college, leadership structures the education system and is the heartbeat that keeps student and teachers in constant collaboration.

Leaders come in various, unexpected forms. For example, the school president is a leader, as well as your teacher, and even an outstanding student. When one student takes the reigns and leads, others follow by example. In most cases, this is a good thing. It encourages independence and originality -which is an important trait in world influencers and the leaders of our workforce.

Leadership skills are necessary for college success because independence is a mandatory trait for the transition to the real world. Being able to lead a group shows organization, ambition and respect for all walks of life. These are traits that are necessary in order to graduate. Ambition -to pursue your goals and meet them, organization -to be able to handle tough situations professionally, and in a timely fashion and finally respect -the ultimate trait of maturity. I believe that respect is the most important characteristic of a good leader. In college, respecting the education structure, your professors and your peers can all lead to success while in college, as well as success out of college.

Not everyone is going to be a leader, however leadership skills and awareness can take one farther than they ever expected. Not only in college, but in life. It does start somewhere, and learning by experience is one of the best ways to embed a concept! Leadership can vary, but the characteristics of a good leader can help with any aspect in life.
