As a freshman at Gonzaga University, majoring in finance, I have already encountered my fair share of academic challenges. One experience in particular stands out as a turning point in my approach to learning and problem-solving.

During my first semester, I enrolled in an introductory calculus course. Math had always been a subject I was comfortable with, but calculus was a different beast altogether. The pace was faster, the concepts more abstract, and the expectations much higher than anything I had faced in high school. I quickly found myself struggling to keep up with the material, which was a new and intimidating experience for me.

The first few weeks of the course were a blur of limits, derivatives, and integrals. I spent countless hours poring over my notes and the textbook, yet I still felt like I was grasping at straws during lectures. The first exam was a wake-up call. Despite my efforts, I barely passed. It was a blow to my confidence and made me question my abilities.

I realized that I needed to change my approach if I wanted to succeed. First, I reached out for help. I started attending office hours regularly, where I could ask questions and get clarification on topics I found confusing. The professor was patient and willing to explain things in different ways until I understood. This one-on-one interaction made a significant difference in my comprehension of the material.
