As a first-year graduate student at Grand Canyon University, I have encountered my fair share of academic challenges. One experience that stands out was during my first semester, when I had to balance my dual majors in Communications and Teacher Education. It was a period that tested my time management skills, resilience, and dedication to my goals.
The challenge began when I realized the workload for both programs was more demanding than I had anticipated. Each major required a significant amount of reading, research, and writing, and I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of assignments and deadlines. On top of that, I was determined to maintain my GPA, which was a 3.5, and I knew I had to perform well in both areas to achieve this.
The pressure was intense, and I started to feel anxious about my ability to keep up. I knew I had to find a way to manage my time better and stay organized, or I risked falling behind. I also wanted to ensure that I was genuinely learning and not just going through the motions to complete assignments. This was important to me because I am passionate about both Communications and Teacher Education, and I wanted to absorb as much as I could from my courses.
To overcome this challenge, I took several steps to improve my situation. First, I sought advice from my professors and academic advisors. They provided valuable insights on how to prioritize tasks and manage my workload more effectively.
