“A leader is a person who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”(John C. Maxwell) Leadership is not only an important quality to have, but also an important quality to show. I believe it is a skill that is necessary for achieving success in college. Although it may take years to effectively show leadership skills, it is an extremely important quality to learn in order to transition from adolescence into adulthood. Leadership skills allow for a person to grow him or herself, positively influence and inspire others, and responsibly handle situations in a well manner. How a person presents their leaderships skills could decide the future success they will have in the work field.

Leadership skills are as important and essential as education. Without it, how can one represent themselves well while showing they are prepared to handle and lead any task they are given? In college, a professor needs to know that their student is a leader; someone who can direct others into a cooperative and positive direction. If a student exhibits leadership well, they are more likely to have better opportunities at getting a job. People who can show this positive quality draw attention onto themselves. It might also allow a teacher to recommend their student as a well candidate for upcoming events. It shows a person is responsible, adequate, and can take charge when needed. Showing leadership skills in college is essential in order to make it into the real world. Many people will be given daily tasks of working with others. How a person handles oneself, and uses their leadership abilities might make or break different situations. A person who can take charge and bring others to work cooperatively will impress a professor. If an employer knows you withhold leadership skills, it will show them you are capable of handling higher ranked positions.

Leadership skills are essential to have not only in college, but also for the rest of our lives. Leadership skills allow for a person to grow him or herself, positively influence and inspire others, and responsibly handle situations in a well manner. Whether it’s in a group project, at work, or in a class, there is always the need for a person to step up and take charge. Being able to learn leadership qualities in college will be essential for the rest of our lives.
