Moving Away From Home by Brayden - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

I had to switch to online school and move 10 hours away from my family to play Junior Hockey during my Junior Year. I moved up to New Hampshire and lived with a host family in the small town of Laconia. While living there i was exposed to many different experiences from helping out with the community, to learning a couple words in Czech. I was the youngest on the team of 16-20 years olds from all over the North America and Europe. I would have to be at the rink all day and come home at night to do my school work and then go to bed and start all over again. Through perseverance and dedication I stayed up to date and never fell behind with my work. I even managed to finish with A’s, while going through the biggest challenge and experience of my life so far. Through this experience I have gained friends all over the US, Canada, and the Czech Republic. I also have gained almost a second family through this experience, who included me in all there activities and events. While I am now home for my senior year I have no regrets on trying new things and broadening my horizons through this experience.
