My Challenging Academic Experience by Cameron - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

During my junior year of high school, I was doing exceptional.I was doing well academically, not struggling to focus and not missing a lot of school. That all changed in November not only was it my birthday month, but it was also the month my mom passed in a car crash.The weeks following this tragic situation I found myself extremely depressed.I found myself struggling to keep up with the school work I missed and doing new work.I tried to remind myself constantly that my mom would want me to keep up my grades and try. So I tried harder and harder to do so.I made up all the missing work that snowballed up do to me missing school following my moms death.I started trying even harder than before and keeping up with my school work.It was very hard to do this as I constantly found myself wanting to roll up in ball and let my grief consume me whole. Some days I did let this happen,but even so I still tried hard on work.Eventually my grades would mirror the work that I put in,as the following grade report after my moms death was filled with all As and a singular B.I remember feeling extremely happy with myself for being able to grieve someone so close to me and still keep up with my school work and get good grades. It has officially been one year since my moms passing and I am still trying my hardest to keep my grades up. Sometimes it is harder than others but I remind myself that If my mom was here she would be proud of my grades, which encourages me to keep trying.
