My Essay by Charly - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
When I first started my college journey at St. Petersburg College, I was filled with excitement and a sense of purpose. I had chosen to major in Business Administration, eager to learn the skills that would help me succeed in the business world. However, I soon found myself facing a significant academic challenge that I had not anticipated.
In my freshman year, I struggled to balance my coursework with other responsibilities. I was working part-time to support myself, and I underestimated the amount of time and effort that college classes would require. My grades started to slip, and I ended my first year with a GPA of 1.8. It was a wake-up call that I could not ignore.
I felt overwhelmed and unsure of how to improve my situation. I knew that I needed to make a change if I wanted to succeed in my studies and achieve my goals. The first step I took was to reach out for help. I spoke with my academic advisor, who provided me with valuable guidance and support. Together, we developed a plan to help me get back on track.
One of the key changes I made was to improve my time management skills. I realized that I needed to be more organized and disciplined in order to keep up with my coursework. I started using a planner to schedule my study sessions, work hours, and other commitments. This helped me to prioritize my tasks and manage my time more effectively.
Additionally, I sought out resources that were available to me on campus. I began attending tutoring sessions for subjects that I found particularly challenging. These sessions not only helped me to better understand the material, but they also gave me the confidence to ask questions and seek clarification when needed. I also joined study groups with my classmates, which provided me with a supportive network and different perspectives on the coursework.
Another important aspect of overcoming this challenge was changing my mindset. I realized that I needed to be more proactive and take responsibility for my learning. Instead of viewing my struggles as failures, I began to see them as opportunities for growth. I adopted a more positive attitude and focused on the progress I was making, rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
Throughout this process, I learned the importance of perseverance and resilience. There were times when I felt discouraged, but I reminded myself of my goals and the reasons why I chose to pursue a degree in Business Administration. My passion for the subject kept me motivated, and I was determined to improve my academic performance.
By the end of my sophomore year, I had made significant progress. My grades improved, and I felt more confident in my ability to succeed in college. While my GPA was not perfect, I was proud of the strides I had made and the lessons I had learned along the way.
This experience taught me that challenges are an inevitable part of life, but they do not define us. It is how we respond to these challenges that truly matters. I learned the value of seeking help, staying organized, and maintaining a positive attitude. These skills will not only serve me well in my academic pursuits, but also in my future career in business.
Looking ahead, I am eager to continue my studies and further develop the skills I have gained. I am committed to working hard and making the most of the opportunities that come my way. I am grateful for the support I have received from my college community, and I am determined to make a positive impact in the field of business.
In conclusion, the academic challenge I faced taught me valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the importance of seeking support. It was a difficult experience, but one that ultimately helped me grow as a student and as a person. I am confident that I can overcome any obstacles that come my way, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
