A college degree is a necessity. College degrees used to be for specific career paths. It was one way to become financially stable. That is no longer the case. It is increasingly more difficult to be eligible for a job without a college degree. In fact, many jobs require a degree but not necessarily a degree that aligns with the job title. College degrees open the doors for job opportunities one would not have without it.
My mom is a teacher with her master’s degree, and my dad didn’t go to college. My dad works 6 days a week to help keep our family financially stable. My dad recently decided to start looking for another job. He has been a Grocery Manager for Safeway for 29 years. Even with his 29 years of work experience, there were few job opportunities with competitive pay for him because he doesn’t have a college degree.
In many ways my generation is set up for a lifetime of debt while reaching for the stretch goal of financial stability. College costs have skyrocketed. The cost of living has skyrocketed. Most students are taking out loans to pay for college. A college degree is a necessity for job opportunities but comes with a large price tag.
