Academic Obstacle by Emma - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
As a studnet athlete, time is not something that is granted freely. My freshman year of high school, I watched as my grades started slipping, after I found myself with less and less time on my hands for homework and extra credit. I hated asking for help, so I struggled in silence for a while. But my grades have always been very important to me. I hated seeing my grades lower than I wanted them to be. So I started staying up later and doing more catchup work. But that wasn't the solution. If I missed one assignment, I was back in the hole I'd created for myself. Eventually, I stopped staying up later, and just started doing the assignments bit by hit throughout the day. If I got to class early, I would start the essay for English, or if I finished a test early, I would focus on studying for my biology test. I honestly believe freshman year was the hardest because of how I was trying to balance my school work. My sophmore and Junior year have had a much heavier workload, and that's on top of being on the varsity team. But using those few spare five minutes between classes and working on assignments before practice, has helped me maintain my 4.0 GPA through out my high school experience.
