I am Just Another Student by Erica - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

Growing up, I was always a decent student but partied a little too much. Partying and hanging out with friends became a priority after graduating high school. It wasn't until six years ago when my daughter was born, I took life and school seriously. I applied for nursing school to become a licensed vocational nurse. It was a rigorous program especially with a toddler and another baby on the way. There were many days I wanted to give up, but my teacher Mrs. Jenson wouldn't allow a negative thought in my head when it came to school. She pushed me and kept telling me to remember my purpose and why I am there. I would stay after school and study until I was able to teach her about different parts of the body and how they functioned. Mrs. Jenson would tell me I could come to class early to study more if I would like too, I did. She would have a cup of coffee ready for me at my desk, because she expected and knew I would show up. I asked her "Why are you doing all this for me? I am just another student." Mrs. Jenson said "Because I see a fire in your eyes, and you are burning to become something great. You have kids but you are the first one here and the last one to leave. You are going to be one of the best nurses I'm going to know. I want to be a part of that growth in your life." Her words still stick with me today as I continue to go to college for my RN BSN. Becoming a Registered Nurse is a newer dream of mine that started when I held my daughter for the first time. I will become a Registered Nurse within the next two years.
