As a seventh grade student, I was making my way through middle school. During the new year, I was slowly getting used to coming back after Christmas break and suddenly… BOOM!! COVID-19 hit, affecting thousands of schools worldwide. This period of my life was one of the most challenging experiences I have ever encountered. As a young thirteen year old teenager, It was very difficult for me to not only understand what was going on, but also how to control a computer to do the given assignments.
My biggest struggle from this experience was figuring out how to work the different online programs such as Zoom. I had several different classes that proved to have many challenges such as my gym which had very difficult assignments that required me to record myself doing a variety of exercises. I additionally had to do several lab’s for my science class and take photos through my computer and submit them into the course. It was also mentally draining having to work from home and having practically no social life for months.
Luckily I had several resources that were able to help me overcome these challenges. Not only did I have the ability to email my teachers and peers, but I was also able to have my parents and siblings help me understand how to do the various assignments. Now I am able to surpass any challenge I face due to the habitual skills I’ve gained and the mental capacity I have grown.
