Inspirational Rebellion by Grace - February 2014 Scholarship Essay
There I was going online looking for a source of inspiration. Then I thought that I would not just like to read a source of inspiration but actually be able to apply it to my life. There were different quotes that spoke to me on a personal level but one that I really took the time to jot down was “We are regressed daily into a state of hypnagogic compliance and downloaded with predictive programming by the media and entertainment industry.” This reminded me of spirit science, the study of inner self (human nature) and how we influence the world and how the world influences us back on a spiritual level.
This quote took my attention because today the media has a huge influence on human perception. We learn by using our sense of hearing and sight to perceive the external world. The television and radio does that. It provides sound and visual effects for us to see. People tend to do what they see on TV and more specifically, people tend to do what entertains them most and that’s where television comes in handy.
When a child is little they are in a state where they comply to anything they are told. TV is what gets people’s mind in that same child-like state where they agree on anything that is being displayed to them. The compliance could be conscious or unconscious. Our unconscious mind is a recorder recording anything heard or seen (an experience) that is conscious or unconscious.
Most of our behaviors and patterns are a result of our subconscious mind. The things that we are not aware of influence us the most. You can see that TV is full of thousands of programs and shows shown every day. More programs are constantly being produced every day. Obviously, a person cannot watch everything on TV and even if they do try to watch as many shows as they can, they cannot recall every single event that had happened throughout the entire amount of time that they had ever watched TV in their short life.
Science has proven that the subconscious mind is a million times more powerful than the conscious mind. It contains more information because it acts like a recorder. The conscious mind is responsible for displaying what is consciously known. This is what scientists mean when they say that we only use a fraction of our brain. That fraction of our brain is the conscious mind. This quote has inspired me to be unpredictable at the right time and do things that others would normally not do. This way I filter out the predictive programming that I have downloaded into my conscious mind and I begin to expand the use of my brain, thus increasing my intelligence.
I think it all starts with me. If I can think about how to unlock my unconscious potential, then I can unleash the true genius within me. I’ve also realized that the diet that we indulge is also responsible for how our brain functions. Like they say, “You are what you eat”. That is true. If I feed myself with the right stuff, I will be able to perform and think better. It will make it easier for me to not comply with the majority but rather follow my own intuition and decide what I think is best for me.
Why do they call TV shows programs? It is because they program us to think a certain way. With that child-like state of mind when the TV is turned on, it is hard to say no. The best thing to do is to control what you watch and how much TV you watch and it is also good to be aware of what is going on in the world.
