Describe a challenging academic experience you have faced and how you overcame it. by Grace - December 2024 Scholarship Essay

A challenging academic experience I have faced is my need for more motivation to do anything related to school during my junior year of high school. I would sleep through most of my classes and just didn’t have a care in the world. Once I started to get behind in one of my classes, I would completely give up, and it would spiral out of control every time. It got to the point where my teachers gave up even trying to email my parents and I just couldn’t mentally bring myself actually to do my schoolwork. My parents were getting very upset with me because of how badly my grades were slipping.
To bring myself out of this academic slump I would start with working on one class at a time and I would start with the easier assignments. Then every once in a while I would do one of the harder or longer assignments and I would just keep going all night long till I ran out of energy drinks or I couldn’t keep myself awake anymore to continue to keep working. I could only do this a couple of times a week because I needed to ensure I was still getting enough sleep to do the current assignments. This took a few weeks to catch up but eventually, I got it all done and was completely caught up. To maintain my grades it had taken a lot of self-discipline and motivation to keep them up and continue doing my assignments.
