The Ideal Classroom Environment by Gwynn - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
As a cyber school veteran, I have an undeniable craving for the actual classroom atmosphere. The ideal classroom environment, in my opinion, is very interactive. The professor should constantly involve the students in lectures. Whether it’s calling students out to answer questions or allowing the class to participate in groups, the classroom should all be very familiar with each other and should enjoy learning the material.
Taking notes is a crucial part of my learning so it would be ideal if the classroom environment was laptop-friendly. I am aware that not all professors allow them and I think that is very unfortunate. Writing notes while a professor actively lectures is a struggle in itself but would be tremendously easier if typing them was allowed.
Walking into the ideal classroom, I would expect to see friendly faces among my peers. Judgment is not permissible in this environment. That immaturity should be left behind in grade school. College students should be mature and eager to better their lives.
Lastly, I would really enjoy a classroom environment that worked at a moderate pace. In my cyber school, the courses were very fast-paced and I had a difficult time learning that way. So with moderate-paced interactive lectures, laptop allowance, and gracious peers, my college experience would be exceptional. That is the ideal classroom environment.
