Adversity by Hadly - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
Hello, my name is Hadly Farr, and I am a senior at Syracuse High. Last year I faced an adamic challenge from the middle to end of my junior year. My father was hospitalized in the ICU and in and out of the hospital for many health reasons. When not in the hospital he needed someone with him to help care for him. Because we were concerned about him, I missed a lot of school. Although I missed a lot of school, I kept my grades high. I talked to my teachers, and I did everything I could online. When I was not at the hospital with him, I was in the school taking tests and talking to teachers about concepts I was not fully understanding. Most of my teachers were understanding. However, I had one teacher that was going to fail me because I had not gone to class for a week. After talking to him, he still did not sympathize with my personal problems. I ended up going to that class and missing out on time with my dad. After the semester was over, I apologized for missing the class. Although the tension was a little high between me and the teacher I still came to class, listened, and participated despite being already done with my work. This experience showed me even if things are not happening how I would like, I need to be understanding from the other perspective and be respectful to others wishes and rules.
