The Teacher I Aspire to Become by Hannah - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

I have had many teachers who have impacted my life, However none so much as my humanities teacher, Mrs. Horton. In my junior year of high school, I decided to go to PATHS to study careers in education. I had always known I wanted to be a teacher which furthered my love for it. However, I struggled to balance PATHS in my regular high school classes, and in my free time, I participated in 4H. Mrs.Horton was very understanding and helped throughout the process, and I ended the two semesters with honors.

This year I have her as a teacher again, for personal finance. And she has helped me immensely with the same time management skills, but also being a listening ear. I do not have a car or a license yet, so I have to spend my lunches at school, instead of sitting by myself Mrs. Horton allows me to eat in her classroom, with a couple of other students. In this lunch period, I can talk about my internship and the kids I am working with through PATHS. She also knows what career I am working towards, so she talks to me about it as she knows the financial piece, and the working in a school piece.

Furthermore, she has taught me how to have a work-life balance. Or in my case a school-life balance as she has had a family and raised her kids to become good human beings. While she is also an amazing teacher. I aspire to become an amazing teacher, family member, and overall human being like her one day.
