A Victor by Isabella - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

Dr. Sachs was my Advanced Placement Literature and Composition teacher. I almost lack the vocabulary to characterize this teacher, except I don't. Dr. Sachs was passive aggressive, rude, and inconsiderate. You could get hit by a bus on the way to school and if your assignment is late, she still had a problem. You could participate in class and say something striking only for another peer, to reiterate what you said, and get credit for it. Dr. Sachs brought something out of me that I never knew I had. I evolved and slowly became in touch with a poet, who lost her sense of imposter syndrome and developed self-esteem? By the end of the year, I was no longer suffering from an identity crisis. The truth is Dr. Sachs was my biggest opponent. Dr. Sachs was a born hater. I insisted that she had spent her lunch break praying for my downfall. Her grueling me in front of the class and critiquing my work to the point of tears made me excel although I don't appreciate her treatment, I'm grateful for it. I recall one time she ended an office hour session with me by saying would you like a cookie before you leave? It is now a tradition that before every single one of my essays, I eat a cookie.
