My Mentor by Jackson - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

A mentor who has helped me further my education is Maverick Liles. When I first met Mr. Liles I was in the 8th grade and was introduced to FFA. I knew from that point on that I wanted to be a part of the program. He is the reason FFA is fun and provides so many things for people to do. He convinced me to be 100% committed to FFA and go to contests as well as get my degrees. He pushed me to be better not only in the classroom but also as a person. Liles is a person I can talk to if I ever need a mentor or even just a friend. FFA is not just for the farmers but for everyone. It taught me that there is a whole community of people who are like me and it is some of the best parts are competing and just talking to new people. What Mr. Liles had done for me will impact me for the rest of my life. He encouraged me to follow my dreams and helped me get started with them. Also, Mr. Liles convinced me to be an FFA officer and it was one of the best decisions in my entire high school career, with not just Mr. Liles but with FFA I've been to so many different places and seen so many different things I would not have been able to without it. In conclusion, I think that out of all the teachers I’ve had he stands out to me the most.
