The Ideal Classroom Environment by Jennifer - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
There are three main things that would make an ideal classroom environment: smaller classrooms, tables instead of desks, and lockable storage areas underneath students’ tables.
First, an ideal classroom environment would be a smaller classroom with 20-30 students. Smaller classrooms allow for each student to receive individual attention. That would be beneficial for students who need help understanding a particular concept. As a result, those students could understand more about a concept and receive better grades.
Second, an ideal classroom environment would be large enough to allow each student to sit at table instead of desk. Most desks that I have seen at colleges are tiny and only have enough room for a notebook and a couple of writing utensils. As a result, there is limited space for other possibly necessary tools such as calculators.
Third, the classroom environment would have storage areas underneath the tables to store backpacks, purses, and other items. As a result, those items would be more easily accessible and would not have to be placed on the floor. These storage areas could have locks with keys that students could leave with their instructors during tests.
Smaller classrooms, tables instead of desks, and lockable storage areas would help to make an ideal classroom environment because students could receive more individual attention and help. Students would also have more space and easier access to their backpacks, writing utensils, and more.
