Are You a leader? by Joanna - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

According to John Buchan, “the task of leadership is not to put greatness into people, but to elicit, for the greatness is there already.” Leadership skills are very necessary for a college success. College students with leadership skills can complete a group project with ease, know how to deal with a crisis, and motivate those around them. Leadership qualities aren't easy to find in everybody.

Group projects can be completed with much more ease if there is at least one person with leadership skills. This is because group projects can be difficult if there is not one person taking the lead and distributing the portions. Another reason why leadership skills is essential for college success is because in a crisis a good leader knows what to do and how to handle it. Continuing with the group project example, if the group power point was accidentally lost or deleted I am sure everyone would panic. What someone with leadership quality does is not panic, reflect on the problem, and come up with a solution. Lastly, someone with leadership qualities is very good at motivating those around them. While some people may get discouraged doing their part of the group project, a leader knows what to say and do to motivate them. Thus allowing the completion of the project. Leadership qualities is key to helping in the success of college.

Good leadership qualities is not in everyone, but it is important that those qualities are learned and retained. Leadership skills is needed for success in college. Are you a leader?
