Teacher Who had a Significant Impact on My Educational Journey by Josiah - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

During my sophomore year in Fordham High School of the Arts. I noticed that the instrumental majors were lacking in playing a major part in many of the performances that were held at the school. The drama and theater departments took up a significant part of the productions. So, with the encouragement of my Music and Theory teacher Mr. Santoro, I began the process to form the Jazz Assemble Club. This took a lot of initiative from a person who considers himself more of a participant as oppose to a self starter. Mr. Santoro reassured me that I have the ambition and the drive to make this possible. It required seeking permission from the principal and guidance counselors. It also entailed finding a staff member to sponsor my ambition. I already had Mrs. Santoro in mind. I just had to ask him. I had to present a proposal to the administration as to the purpose and protocol of the club. Once I was successful in obtaining a staff member, of course, Mr. Santoro. I had to jump the next hurdle. I outlined that the purpose of the Jazz Assemble would be to highlight those participants in the major of instrumental. We would be responsible for the walk in music, intermissions and when the patrons leave the auditorium. As well as, providing entertainment for the patrons of the productions. All students exhibiting an interest and talent would be accepted into the club. My application was accepted and the Jazz ensemble was formed. Not only do we play at productions. We also play at parent teacher gatherings, Jazz Cafe, and school showcases. Now a graduating senior, it has truly been a rewarding experience. I owe a lot of the Jazz Assemble becoming a reality for me to Mr. Santoro. Without his support and vision I am not sure it would have been possible.
