Choose Your Peers Carefully by Kennman - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Entering high school is a time that many students anticipate greatly as they progress through middle school. Many younger students long for the time that they will enter high school. The freedom, the thought of soon being able to drive, and a major step of becoming a man or women are all very appealing to upcoming high freshman. High school is much more than just academics, but it about growing up into the person you will become. It is for this reason that freshman should not get caught up in fitting in with the “cool kids” and choosing the wrong friends.

It is no secret that all kids want to fit and be liked by their peers. However, incoming freshman should be sure to choose their peers carefully. It is very important for freshmen to have positive influences that will help them make the right choices are they progress through high school. With the newly, gained freedom many students turn to social activities that can often times have negative consequences. Failing to surround oneself with the right peers as a freshman can end up impacting the rest of one’s life.

High school is a time when students often out find out who they truly and what they want to do with their life. It is very crucial for freshman to begin high school on the right foot and not become surrounded by the wrong people, possibly hampering their future. High school is what one makes of it. It can be the greatest part of one’s life, or it can end up being worst part of one’s life. It all starts with surrounding oneself with the right people and making the right choices. So the greatest advice I can give to incoming freshman is be smart and choose peers that will bring the best out in you.
