My Favorite Teacher by Kirra - December 2024 Scholarship Essay
One of my accomplishments that gave me the greatest satisfaction was when I got an A in my English class in my first semester of sophomore year. It's kind of silly that this is one of the things that has given me the greatest satisfaction, but it was something that I worked really hard for and I doubted myself at first. Before this class, I had always easily gotten As in English. It wasn't the class I had to worry about in the slightest. However, after our first big writing assignment, I realized that this was not the case anymore, because it wasn't like I didn't work hard on it and I still didn't get the grade I'd hoped for. After that, I knew I had to step it up. I spent extra hours editing and reediting my writing, asking my friends to peer review it, and asking my teacher for advice on how to make it better. Asking Mr. P for help was a pretty challenging thing for me. Especially at that time, I was still kinda shy and he was a bit intimidating. Even after the second big writing assignment, I still didn't quite get the grade I wanted, but I knew the end of the semester was close. So, I doubled down and worked even harder. Finally, when I got my final semester grade and saw that I had finally gotten that A, I was surprised and ecstatic. I actually cheered out loud and wanted to tell everyone. And I was genuinely proud of myself. Also, it felt really good to see Mr. P comment on my paper that the writing was strong, that I should be proud of my work and progress, and that my paper was the best in the class.
