As a sophomore majoring in Marketing at Heartland Community College, I have faced various academic challenges, each contributing to my growth as a student and as a person. One experience that stands out is tackling math classes throughout my academic career. Math has never come easy to me- i’ve felt left behind my whole my whole life because of this. These classes were not just about numbers and formulas; they were a test of my perseverance and adaptability.

It required a different way of thinking and a new approach to problem-solving. I found myself struggling to grasp the concepts, and my initial grades reflected my confusion.

Through each class the first few weeks were particularly challenging. I spent hours going over notes and textbooks, but the material did not seem to stick. To tackle this tough challenge, I decided to change my approach (since it was clearly not working for me.) I started by seeking help from tutors. This was not easy for me, as I had always been hesitant to ask for help, fearing it would make me look incapable. However, my tutors were incredibly supportive and explained the concepts in a way that made more sense to me. This experience taught me the importance of seeking help and the value of different perspectives in understanding complex topics.

To further improve my understanding, I would utilize online resources such as educational videos and forums. These platforms offered different explanations and examples that would complement what I learned in class. I also practiced problems regularly, which helped reinforce my learning and build confidence in my abilities.

As time went on, my efforts began to pay off. I saw improvement in my grades and, more importantly, in my vital understanding of the subject.
