Education and the impact it has on my life. by Megan - December 2014 Scholarship Essay
Education has shaped my life in so many ways. Not only has it allowed me to articulate my needs, concerns, wishes, and desires but it has allowed me to question, explore and ponder the mysteries of life. Without gaining the ability to read, write, compute, problem solve, socialize where would any of us be?
I come from a long line of educators; my grandmother, uncle, cousin and both parents are educators. I have spent many sick days, vacations and summer days in schools. My love of learning and my “genetics” has given me helped me realize my major and my career path. I have always wanted to be a teacher, spend my life passing on knowledge to young inquisitive minds. It has been my dream since I was young. Sure I have other passions but even that has a tinge of education entwined in it. I have been dancing since I was five. I have learned many different forms of dance; tap, hip-hop, ballet, funk. Each form, I enjoyed not only the movements but the process of learning. I have used this knowledge to participate in competitions and events as well as several school dramas. I have also combined my love of dance and passion for teaching and have been assisting my dance teacher in conducting and choreographing several dance routines for younger students.
Education is more than just gaining knowledge, it is empowering. Francis Bacon said it best, “Knowledge is Power”! Education is my very life and I cannot wait to share that passion with others. Education has and will continue to shape my life for the better. Thank you for your consideration.
