Every student faces challenges during their academic journey, and I am no exception. My name is Nikilas Blumenstock, and as a high school senior with a passion for engineering and computer science, I have encountered my fair share of obstacles. One of the most significant challenges I faced was during my junior year, when I took on an advanced programming class that pushed me to my limits.

The class was notorious for its difficulty, and I was both excited and nervous when I enrolled. I have always been fascinated by how technology works and the way programming can bring ideas to life, so I was eager to dive in. However, I quickly realized that the class was more demanding than I had anticipated. The pace was fast, and the concepts were complex. I found myself struggling to keep up with the assignments and understand the material.

The first few weeks were particularly tough. I remember spending countless hours in front of my computer, trying to debug programs that just would not run correctly. My confidence began to waver, and I started to doubt my abilities. I knew I had to find a way to overcome these challenges if I wanted to succeed in the field I was passionate about.

The turning point came when I decided to reach out for help. I realized that I did not have to face this challenge alone. I started attending after-school tutoring sessions and formed a study group with some of my classmates. Working with others allowed me to gain new perspectives and learn different problem-solving techniques. My classmates and I supported each other, sharing our struggles and celebrating our successes. This collaborative environment helped me understand the material better and regain my confidence.

I look forward to attending the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where I plan to major in engineering and computer science. I am eager to apply the skills I have learned and continue to grow as a student and a future professional in the field. I am also excited about the opportunity to contribute to a diverse and inclusive community, where I can learn from others and share my experiences as a Black man pursuing a career in technology.
