Skills for Success by Rosalie - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Are leadership skills necessary for college success? Why or why not?
When I first read this question I immediately came to the conclusion that yes, leadership skills are necessary for college success. When you picture a good leader you might imagine them as being organized, disciplined, persistent, and reliable, and each of these are necessary skills to be successful in college.
A student may find themselves struggling or falling behind if they lack one or more of these skills. For example, if a teacher assigns a project that requires research and careful planning, like a research paper. It will take the skills mentioned above to complete this task successfully. It will take discipline to plan a topic early enough in advance, so that they will have time to do their research carefully, and revise any necessary material. It will take persistence in finding subjects related to their topic, and carefully choosing the correct research for their paper. It takes organization skills to organize research for their rough draft, and to turn that into an acceptable paper, and it will also take reliability to get it turned in on time for a complete grade.
So you see, it may not take a leader to be successful in college, but it absolutely will take leadership skills to be a successful student in college. Thank you.
