Yes, No, Maybe So by victoria - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

What does it mean to be successful? Does it mean long hours at the office? Does it mean attaining a high salary? Or does it mean you have all of the necessary personal skills that are required in the working world? Success is not only defined by a person’s endurance and passion, but also by his/her’s ability to take charge.

Leadership skills are essential to a career, education, and overall lifestyle. The ability to make an intelligent decision is crucial to any life experience. This comes from knowing who you are and what is best for you. Once you have a full understanding of who you are and what is in your best interest, you can use logical reasoning to make rational decisions that reflect your precise comprehension of any given situation and that may lead you down a more desirable path. If you love the life you lead, it opens countless opportunities of academic and social discovery.

However, tough decision-making is not the only key to success. Leadership also means having the confidence to do what is necessary, and what is right. Some of the best examples of successful men and women are those who started with nothing, but an idea and the courage to carry it out. Bill Gates began fiddling with technology out of an inquiry/hobby. He was told that it was useless, but as you can see, his ideas are no longer useless today. This goes to show how courage and self- confidence are essential to precise and intelligent decision-making, which is a large percentage of utilizing leadership for educational purposes, and life in general.
