Title: Harnessing the Power of Persistence and Innovation by Ziad - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
My name is Ziad Marwan, a sophomore at Arizona State University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I wish to submit my application for the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest. This essay is a testament to my drive, resolve and resilience, grounded in my captivating journey within the realm of Mechanical Engineering.
From a very young age, my heritage as a Middle Eastern man shaped my perspective on life. It taught me the importance of perseverance, integrity, and intellectual curiosity. These same principles I carried into my educational pursuits, choosing to study Mechanical Engineering - a field that perfectly blends my fascination for understanding how things work and the desire to innovate and create.
My journey at Arizona State University thus far, despite its highs and lows, has been a fulfilling one. The GPA I have today, 2.44, is not a reflection of my capacity, rather, it signifies the challenging courses I dared to undertake, demonstrating my acceptance of academic challenges and the willingness to improve. I have learned to turn the lessons obtained from unsuccessful ventures into stepping stones to achieve success in subsequent ones. Attaining this scholarship would provide additional motivation to excel in my studies.
Within the course of my studies, I have found particular interest in the application of robotics in everyday life. I believe that the careful integration of technology and engineering concepts can transform societies. The idea of creating automated systems that can improve the efficiency of processes and contribute to societal growth excites me. I am learning about these daily at ASU and am geared towards contributing my quota to advancing this field.
My immersion into the university and major I am currently studying in have reaffirmed my belief that knowledge becomes valuable when combined with creativity and ingenuity. I strive to become a Mechanical Engineer who does not only master theoretical concepts, but also applies these for the betterment of my community.
Given my drive and dedication to continuous learning and improving, I believe this scholarship will enhance my academic journey by providing much-needed financial assistance, thereby reducing my worries about tuition costs and allowing me more time to focus on what’s important: broadening my knowledge and skill in Mechanical Engineering.
In conclusion, I want to express my firm commitment to making the most of this scholarship opportunity. Each day at Arizona State University, I am reminded of the effectiveness of diligence, dedication, and a positive mindset in achieving scholarly excellence. If given this chance, I promise to uphold this belief not only in words but also in actions, fully committed to gauging the depths of my potential. The Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest would be an excellent tool for me to do so and I am excited about the prospect of making a difference in the world of engineering with the support of Varsity Tutors.
In essence, I am not the perfect student but I am a student with the perfect mindset, stirred with hope, optimism, and resilience. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours sincerely,
Ziad Marwan
